Sites listed in the main Music category each cover a variety of musical topics, such as instrument types, theory, history and styles. If you're looking for web sites that are more focused on one particular aspect of music, please check the appropriate sub-categories.

Online Stories - This category has online novels, short stories, folk tales, fairy tales, scary stories, and other fiction and non-fiction for children and teenagers.

Photography - Sites listed in the main Photography category each cover a variety of photography and camera-related topics. For example, one site may cover information on taking pictures, as well as developing film, which cameras to use, master photographers, etc. If you're looking for web sites that are more focused on one particular aspect of photography, please check the appropriate sub-categories. Chats and Forums - A listing of the best Teen Chat Rooms found on the internet today. Most are Java and IRC chat rooms. All care is taken to select the most safe and clean teen chat rooms. However, caution must be taken when entering teen chat rooms as most rooms are not moderated. For your safety, it is recommended that you DO NOT give out your phone number, address, or any other personal information. Also, do not always believe what you hear in a chat room. If it is too good to be true..it probably is. Do you know of a clean, user-friendly, and safe teen chat room that you feel should be listed here? Well..feel free to submit the url for review. Please only send your submission once. It will be reviewed as soon as possible. Only original chat rooms will be accepted. Those without any original content and simply linked to the same channel will be rejected. Sites of a more topical nature may belong in a different subcategory of Top/Kids and Teens. Look around before submitting your site. Sites which are incomplete, have under construction notices, contain broken graphics or links, or consist mostly of links to other sites will not be listed.

Internet - Information sites about the internet and using the internet for kids or teens.

Software - Kids_and_Teens/Computers/Software includes sites that provide freeware and/or shareware titles suitable for children or teens, as well as sites designed to help young people learn to create their own software.

Genealogy - This category is aimed at kids under the age of 18. Sites provide information or activities related to genealogy, or they provide specific resources to help kids trace their own family heritages.

General - This category lists sites created for kids and teens under the age of 18 that provide information about people and society. Personal homepages created by kids are located in Kids_and_Teens/Society_and_People/Personal_Homepages.

Holidays and Special Days - The sites listed in this category are designed to inform or help young people ages 3-18 to celebrate holidays. Sites focused on single holidays are listed in appropriate sub categories.

Online Communities - Online Communites are sites where people with similar interests can communicate with each other, learn, and contribute. Contribution is the defining factor of an online community. Sites in this category must be strictly for kids or for kids and teens . They must be sites where young people can interact with each other and "leave their mark" on the site. Sites that offer clubs, give kids a chance to write reviews, and sites that offer free home pages are good examples of online communities. However, just offering one of these things doesn't make a site a community. Sites for this category will be carefully screened and must meet the criteria of a community.

Pen Pals - Sites created to help kids and teens under the age of 18 find pen pals are listed in this category.

Personal Homepages - This category is for Personal Homepages created by teens and in English.

Psychology - Sites here should have information about psychology and mental health issues that concern children. Articles may be about coping skills, the science of psychology, how emotions and feelings work, why people do what they do. All sites in this cateogory should be for children to read and use. Mental health sites for parents and other caregivers to use belong elsewhere in the ODP, such as Health/Mental Health or the appropriate subcategory in Home/Family.

Drawing and Coloring - This category contains sites that feature activities for very young children to paint and color.

Games - This is the place for sites that contain online games that can be played by children that aren't reading yet.

General - This category is for sites aimed at a pre-school audience (typically children up to the age of 5, although there will naturally be some overlap with the 6-7 year age group).

Online Stories - Online stories which are aimed at pre-school aged children (typically children up to the age of 5, although there will naturally be some overlap with the 6-7 year age group).

Television - This category is for sites about television programs aimed at a pre-school audience (typically children up to the age of 5, although there will naturally be some overlap with the 6-7 year age group). Sites will often be visually based and of a type which pre-school children can use with a minimum of adult assistance. Social Studies - This category lists sites that deal with the way people work and live in communities. Sites geared toward social studies teachers will not be listed here.

Advice - This category contains advice for teenagers, ranging from the ages of 11-19. Please be careful and use your own judgment when requesting advice. It can be hard to determine the qualifications of those offering advice over the Internet.

Babysitting - Information on babysitting, safety tips, on-line courses, songs you can teach the kids, games you can play, stories you can read, and other do's and don'ts of babysitting.

Directories - This category is for sites that are links to teenage sites. This can be in the form of a links page, search engine or directory. Most web sites will include ratings and reviews of the linked-to teen sites.

Driver's Education - An important part of every teenagers life is the experience of learning how to drive. In this category you will find helpful sites related to teen drivers and new drivers alike.

Fashion - Sites in this category will offer information about general Teen fashion.

Girls Only - This category contains resources specifically for and about Teen Life as relates to Girls. Includes groups, clubs, societies, email lists, magazines, e-zines, forums, and chat sites.

Issues - This category contains web sites which deal with controversial or current issues which are of importance to teenagers. Such issues may include the environment, politics, and education.

Magazines and E-zines - Magazines, articles, or mailing lists that are published on-line, or are the on-line version of a magazine or newspaper geared towards teenagers.

Memorial Pages - This category lists pages and sites which pay tribute to deceased teenagers. Sites may be created by grown-ups or teens.

Teen Health - This category contains websites which cover the general aspects of teens' health.

Teen Sexuality - Sites relevant to adolescent sexuality, including planning of sexual conduct, abstinence from sexual conduct, active sexual conduct, consequences of sexual conduct, and related topics. Sites listed here are intended primarily for teens. Additional information on reproductive health topics (intended for all ages) is found in Health:Reproductive Health. DO NOT submit Adult sites to this category. They will NOT be listed, and it is very likely that they will be deleted. The ODP does have an Adult hierarchy -- please submit appropriate sites there.

Visual Expression - Category which encourages creativity in today's teenage society. Any site that has poetry, music, artwork, photography, basketry, sculpture, leatherwork, metalwork, or any other thing that could be classified as art is excepted.
